Worship Services

The Tape Ministry Team promotes the sharing of God’s Word beyond the doors of the church by producing the message and music on audio cassette. The taped messages are taken to those in our church family who are unable to attend our services of worship for whatever reason. Quite often, the message and music during a particular service of worship strikes home and members or guests request a copy to here again or to send to a loved one or friend.

The Sound System Ministry Team is responsible for running the sound system each Sunday. Their role is vital in that if one cannot hear the message proclaimed clearly then one cannot receive it. Special hearing devices are also available for the hearing impaired which allow them to sit anywhere in the sanctuary with their families and friends and remain unencumbered.

The Altar Guild enhances our services of worship each week by assuring that fresh flowers will be on the altar and that the appropriate paraments will be on the altar and lectern. The altar guild maintains a flower calendar that encourages members of the church family to be involved in this ministry by giving flowers in honor, or in memory, or to the glory of God. In addition to the flowers and paraments, the altar guild maintains the brass accessories in the sanctuary. During the special seasons of the year, they gather to furnish the sanctuary in the appropriate seasonal theme.

The Usher Team Ministry consists of individuals who are active participants in each service of worship. The Ushers are organized in teams and serve on a one month rotational system. Teams are organized by an usher coordinator who contacts each member of a team by the fifteenth day of the preceding month in which the usher will serve. Normally 5 ushers are required at each service and serve for the entire month. A head usher is assigned who is responsible for making assignments, filling out the attendance report, and making sure things run smoothly. Along with the greeters, the ushers welcome people to the service, provide them with bulletins, answer any questions, and escort them to a seat, if necessary. When visitors are welcomed by the minister, an usher presents them with a church brochure. When directed by the minister, the ushers receive the offering. At this time they take an attendance count. On the first Sunday of each month when communion is served the ushers direct the people to the communion rail. During worship the ushers are alert for any disturbances or emergencies that may arise and provide assistance as required. At completion of the service, they open the outside doors, pick up all loose bulletins from the pews, and straighten up the sanctuary. When completed and all people have left, the outside doors are closed.

The Acolytes and Chancel Assistants are active participants in the services of worship. The acolytes serve on a monthly rotational basis and are responsible for opening the service with the lighting of the candles and closing the service with the extinguishing of the candles. They also serve as communion stewards on Sundays when the Sacrament of Holy Communion is served. Individuals serve as acolytes during their three through six grade years. The Chancel Assistants assist the pastor as communion stewards on those Sundays when the Sacrament of Holy Communion is served. Individuals who are Chancel Assistants serve during their ninth through twelfth grade years.

A special class is held for sixth graders each year and for those who have not previously been confirmed. Beginning on Sunday School Promotion Sunday for all classes, the class will be for confirmands, those preparing to be confirmed and to receive full membership in the church, and will include a retreat and conclude with confirmation. The classes will be held on Sunday mornings during the regular Sunday School hour from 9:45 to 10:45 AM. The fall session will include regular sessions with a teacher, video and workbook. The Spring Session will involve time with a mentor each work who will work with the confirmand on the basis history and theology of the church and an understanding of what is necessary to become a Christian Disciple.
